Teaching kids to be charitable is an incredible way to give them the power to make a positive difference in the lives of others.  One of my goals as a parent is to model and share with my children the importance of giving to others, helping others and to always find the positive pieces of their day.  There is always, always something to be thankful for no matter what.

Today we are especially thankful for the opportunity to get the word out about an incredible, local organization right here in Vienna, VA.  Little Loving Hands is on a mission to provide parents and caretakers a fun and educational method to engage children in learning about the importance of empathy and being kind.  Lily Yeh, CEO and Founder wanted to help her children grow in kindness and after researching volunteer opportunities for her children to take part in, she quickly realized that there was a very limited selection.  With that being said, Little Loving Hands was born.  Every month, Little Loving Hands chooses a new organization and craft, complete with all materials and collateral for kids to learn, create and donate to a wonderful cause.

So here’s the deal.

After you join, you will receive a neat little box in the mail, complete with everything you need to make a difference.  As soon as we opened up our box, there was a happy, orange card that read, “Throw Kindness Around Like Confetti”.  Yes, please.

There is just the right amount of literature to explain the craft and the reason for it.  We started off by reading the very simple story about whom we were helping.  Little Loving Hands nails this with basic graphics and succinct text, which helps set the stage for your children - giving them an attainable goal.  Our mission was to make a Search and Seek Activity Bag that will be given to a child staying at The Children’s Inn at NIH so that they have something fun to do while there and can take home when they are all better.

After we discussed the purpose of our craft, we started organizing our materials to create the Search and Seek Activity Bag.  The instructions were so simple to follow.  My 4 and 6 year old had no problems completing the activity with my guided help.  At the end we were able to reflect using the included reflection questions.  I loved this part and am a big fan of checking for understanding.  Little Loving Hands even includes a completion certificate, and adorable pin.  We put the completed Search and Seek Activity bag in the included mailer and away it went!

Children can take part and make a positive difference at any age.  They can be inspired and inspire others to make this world a brighter place, thanks to Little Loving Hands.  Join this simple, yet powerful cause with the click of a button.  Little Loving Hands offers a variety of monthly subscriptions, starting as low as $20 a month.  Whichever one you subscribe to, you will receive a charitable craft kit each month right in the comfort of your own home.  What a powerful gift to give a child in your life this holiday season!

Out of the mouths of babes, this is what we learned.

  • “It makes my heart feel happy that I was able to help sick kids.  Can we do this everyday?”  We are giving and empathetic.
  • ”It felt good to be kind and helpful to the kids that are sick at the hospital. I hope they have fun with the game we made.”  We are making a difference.
  • “It was really fun dying the beans, hiding the toys and sewing.”  We are creative and learning everyday.

Thank you, Little Loving Hands, for giving the little people in our family the chance to showcase their big hearts.  Until next time…
