It's becoming a tradition in our family to visit Busch Gardens® Christmas Town™ to kick of the holiday season.   We visited the second weekend the festivities were open - so read on to learn more and then enter to win your very own Christmas Town Getaway!

Our Kids Top 5 Reasons to Visit Busch Gardens Christmas Town

1.  The Lights

There's a reason they say Christmas Town is the place "Where Christmas Shines Brightest".  The park is home to the biggest light display in North American with 8.3 million lights.  Lights are virtually everywhere you look in the park - they decorate the walkways and trim the many rides.  Coupled with the lights are various tracks of music which change depending on what country you're visiting.  My family and I simply love walking through the pathways and enjoying the serenity of the lights.  A favorite spot is the Polar Pathway and is a must visit while at the park.

2.  The Shows

There are six shows to choose from and you likely will not be able to see them all in one day (a good reason to purchase a Christmas Town Fun Card for multiple visits).  But if you can only make it a one day visit, I'd recommend that you take a peek at the six shows that Christmas Town offers this year and plan accordingly.  We opted for Gift of Harmony™, a new a capella show that all ages will enjoy.  The group of talented singers brought old and new classic songs to life.

The show is located in Italy and there is a lot of seating available; however people start coming early to grab a seat.  For example, we went by the theater at 4:30 p.m. for the 5:30 p.m. show - there were already people claiming seats at the prime tables.  So I ended up saving a table for our family while the rest of my group went and rode a few rides.  I'd recommend arriving to any of the shows at least a 1/2 hour earlier than showtime.  Alternatively, if you're eager to see a show, Busch Gardens offers reserved seating ticketing options.

3.  The Rides

Our family has some time-tested favorites.  The Skyride is a one-way aerial trip with stops in England, France and Germany.  It's peaceful and relaxing soaring above the park and taking in the light displays.  You do have to get off at each station and get back in line, so keep that in mind.  Also keep in mind that lines do get longer as the evening wears on and the lights come into full display.  In my opinion, it's worth the wait.  Another favorite is the Busch Gardens Railway, which is a 20-minute ride that takes you throughout the park.

But those two rides are just the tip of the iceberg.  I truly love that Busch Gardens Williamsburg has something for the entire family.   Sesame Street Forest of Fun is especially for the little ones (and honestly for the big ones too because we rode the Grover's Alpine Express roller coaster).  There are mini thrill rides, plus tame rides like the bumper cars and Mach Tower (which converts to an easy up and down ride during the holidays) that are open throughout the park.  My teen daughter had "going on an adult roller coaster" on her bucket list and she crossed that off by being brave and riding the Verbolten, a multi-launch, indoor/outdoor roller coaster (in Germany).  She loved it and we'll treasure the hilarious picture that was taken for years to come.  Busch Gardens also has the InvadR roller coaster open, but we did not partake in that scariness!

4.  The Animals

Every year, we visit whatever animals are available for viewing.  And this year we were treated to the wolves howling at their location in Wolf Haven.  A few years back we were lucky to do a Wolf Training Up-Close tour and we'd recommend purchasing this add-on if you can.  If not, head over to Wolf Haven right when the park opens as oftentimes the wolves are out and about in their den.

Eagle Ridge is home to several American Bald eagles that are not able to survive on their own in the wild.  These majestic creatures are on view and really are an amazing sight to behold in person.  Another family favorite is the Highland Stables where you'll see Clydesdales plus Scottish blackface sheep and Border collies.  You can even purchase a Clydesdales & Collies Up-Close Tour if you have a real animal lover in your group.

5.  The Shops

You can start your holiday shopping right on premises.  There are unique shops within each country at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.  You'll find everything from authentic European gifts, to delicious food options and local craft vendors at Mistletoe Marketplace.
